Atata is a beautiful island with white sandy beaches and excellent snorkelling located just 10 km from Nuku'alofa. It a 30 minute boat trip from the Nuku'alofa Harbour. The boat service departs daily at 11am and returns at 4pm. It is the most remote and the largest of the three off shore islands including Fafa and Pangaimotu. The island has some spectacular beaches and a small fishing village at its northern end, which can be visited on an organised tour from Royal Sunset Island Resort.

The Royal Sunset Resort also offers a luxury yacht complete with skipper, crew and cook.
The Impetuous a 51ft Beneteau luxury yacht is fully equipped for safe ocean passages and idyllic cruising in a fantasy land of unspoilt islands in Vava'u and Hapai'i. You are able to charter this yacht at any Tongan Island. This gives you the flexibility of flying to some destinations and cruising to others. For example, you may want to fly to Hapai'i and charter the yacht from the Sandy Beach Resort to explore the Hapai'i islands and then cruise to Vava'u Islands and return to Tongatapu by air. Spend the day on beautiful Atata Island and enjoy lazing on the white sandy beach, swimming in the crystal clear turquoise lagoon and snorkelling among the coral reefs. See the giant clam shells located on the reef just opposite the resort. The price includes your round trip transfers by boat and a all-you-can-eat buffet barbecue lunch at Royal Sunset Island Resort and 30 minute snorkelling trip including equipment. 16 Beachfront Fale Bungalows located on Atata Island 10 km from the main towne of Nuku'alofa and only a 30 minute boat trip from Nuku'alofa wharf, however, feels like you are light years away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Laze away the day on a white sandy beach with excellent swimming and snorkelling. The bungalows feature 2 divan beds in the lounge and separate bedroom with queen size or 2 single beds, ceiling fans, fridge, tea & coffee making facilities and private shower and toilet. Also available are honeymoon-style mini suites with queen bed and lounge suite. All bungalows have private verandas. The resort features a swimming pool, restaurant and bar. Complimentary snorkelling equipment, sailing dinghies, windsurfer and paddle boards. The Resort also features the Royal Sunset Sport Fishing who operate the "Atata Clipper" a 24' launch with diesel motor. Half day or full day fishing available at US$355 for Half Day or US$550 for full day (for 4 persons). Snorkelling trips and tours to the fishing village are regular activities at the Resort.
