You can view many varieties
of birds in Eua for it is a bird lovers paradise.It is famous
for the Red breasted Musk Parrot, however other varieties are:
Reef Heron, Jungle Fowl, Pacific Pigeon, Blue Crowned Lory,
Barn Owl Pacific Black Duck, White Rumped Swiftel, Crimson Crowned
Fruit Dove, Purple Swamphen, White Collared Kingfisher and the
White Tern. Much of the island is covered in plantation and
grassland with small patches of coastal forest where at dusk
you may see the cave-dwelling sheath-tailed bat (pekapeak) hunting
for insects. The large flying fox, or fruit bat (peka) roosts
in large forest or plantation trees. |

Sea bird colonies nest
on Eua's cliffs and the windy east coast is a good place to see
them. Soaring great frigate birds, with their distinctive pointed
wings and forked tails, are a impressive sight. There are two
white sandy beaches in Eua where you can swim. Ufilei Beach is
just north of Ohonua Towne and Tufuvai Beach is approximately
a 5 minute walk from the Hideaway Resort. The safest place to
snorkel is in Ononua harbour, Ufilei Beach just 2 km north of
the wharf. |

Whale watching is a popular activity during July to October.
You can either view the whales from your veranda at the Hideaway
Resort or take the motorboat tour.
Watching the whales and dolphins in the wild is an experience
of a lifetime. Some whales are so tame that they like to have
their noses scratched and they often poke their heads out of
the water to watch the whale watchers watching them.
The only nightlife on Eua takes place at the Maxi Disco Hall.
A live band plays on Friday and Saturday evenings. |

am Depart Tongatapu via Airlines Tonga
7:55 am Arrive Eua and transfer to Ofeina Village. Time for
morning coffee, breakfast and exploring before continuing to
the crafts market. (note: breakfast meal is optional and not
included in package price).
At the crafts market you will view Tongan Woman weaving Tapa
Cloth and making local craft.

| A visit to the local
fruit market before continuing to the ruins of the Anokula Palace.
Here atop 120m cliffs are spectacular views. Photographs showing
red dirt, green foliage, gray cliffs, blue seas and white clouds
look unreal as if they must be painted. Continue to the Hideaway
Resort for lunch. There is time to explore the lovely white
sand beach of Tufuvai (approx 5 minute walk from the Resort)
Or simply relax and enjoy the ocean views. |

During whaling season
(July to October) you can view mama whales frolicking with their
new-born calves. You will delight in the whales breaching in
front of the Resort. After lunch we proceed to the Plantation
Forest and Hafu Pool. This area reminds you of a botanical garden
with its lovely ferns, trees and foliage. A short walk to the
Big Ova va (huge banyan tree) You will marvel at the size of
this tree. Beneath this magnificent banyan tree is an equally
impressive sinkhole and cave with a small stream running through
it. Continue to the Lokupo Lookout. Here you will see many varieties
of local birds flying above the 800m wide band of tropical rainforest
which hangs below you. The sheer cliffs descend directly from
the ridge on the island to the sea below. Proceed through the
Eua National Park and beautiful pine trees, flora and fauna.
Continue from the National Park to the Hideaway Resort for afternoon
refreshments before boarding your flight to Tongatapu.

waterfront in Tufuvai. Rooms have a double bed and single bed,
ceiling fans and private shower and toilet. All rooms have a
view of the ocean with outdoor table and chairs. You can sit
in front of your room and watch the whales (during July-September).
Although the ocean is too rocky here for swimming it is excellent
for exploring the numerous tide pools, watching the sunset,
or seeing the dolphins play at your door step. There is a white
sandy beach suitable for swimming, Tufuvai Beach, approximate
5 minute walk from the Resort. The Resort also features a restaurant

by jeep or hiking through the forest. At the Lookout you will

to the sea below. You will have a chance to visit some caves.
Close to Lokupo Lookout is Rats Cave (Ana Kuma). A narrow passageway
leads through the rock to a small ledge and a stunning view
over the rainforest to the Pacific Ocean. Proceed through the
Eua National Park and beautiful pine trees, flora and fauna.
